Different studies give different answers to this question. First of all, some studies show that children who use their phone A LITTLE have less anxiety than children who NEVER look at a phone. Secondly, too much use does seem to increase anxiety, but scientists don’t know if anxious people use their phones more BECAUSE they are anxious, or if people become anxious BECAUSE they use their phone.

This what my research is trying to look at – but most teenagers don’t feel anxious after using their phones. However, just like any interaction with your friends, you may have situations online that will make you feel anxious (being judged by friends, for example). Finally, if you use a phone at night time and reduce your sleep, you may be reducing your wellbeing by taking away your rest, which has been shown to be associated to good mental health
