• Question: If a family has a rich history of mental health, their child may be born with a disposition to mental health. Is there anyway this could be altered or eradicated through genetic modification?

I did a lecture and debate on this with students and what we learnt was that changes to the family environment can really help treat mental illness rather than biomedical approaches. For example, studies found that people had less relapse when there was a supportive network compared with the same dose medication but an unsupportive environment
