• Question: What do students do to have such an unhealthy life apart from smoking, drinking and drugs?

      it could that they have an unhealthy diet or a medical condition, or maybe they don’t have access to good health care where they live or very little money.

      We often see lots of problems in students around their eating and exercise behaviour too. Students tend to eat quite poorly and don’t exercise enough. There are lots of reasons for this; they prioritise other things like assignments over spending time cooking or going for a run, they might not know how to cook properly (never ceased to amaze me how I was a student how few of my flatmates knew how to cook – I once had to teach a mate how to make mash potato…), or they might not be able to afford to eat well or for a gym membership. They also tend to sleep quite poorly for similar reasons, especially not sleeping standard hours or not getting enough sleep. All of this contributes towards students having low immune systems, and when you’re living and working in such close quarters with other students, that means getting ill quite a lot!
