  yes in most cases from experience, i think we all use substances to get through a day, some are healthy and some are unhealthy, our brains can get become addicted to alcohol and drugs, so much it becomes illness and this is a vicious cycle. Most of the guys in prison are highly addicted to stuff and its their way of coping.
