No, not at all! I try to stress that not everyone is perfect in terms of their behaviour and that no one practices everything they preach – it’s impossible to make 100% healthy decisions all of the time, as we’re only human after all. I also get them to personally pinpoint one behaviour in themselves which they would like to work to change, and then try to apply some of the techniques for changing behaviour we teach to themselves. This helps students to see that changing behaviour isn’t easy, and to empathise more with patients.
